The COVID-19 pandemic led to the closure of Brazilian educational institutions in March 2020, resulting in a shift to virtual classes for almost all students. This abrupt transition disrupted social interaction and cooperation among students. In response, a research study focused on improving virtual classes using Digital Information and Communication Technologies (DICT). The study proposed a four-step methodology: analyzing the impact of DICT on socio-emotional skills, designing and developing digital tasks to enhance social interaction, evaluating the effectiveness of these tasks through a questionnaire, and validating the methodology through qualitative analysis. The results showed that using DICT, combined with tailored pedagogical activities based on students' access to technology, aided in developing socio-emotional skills. Virtual classes positively affect students' organizational skills, empathy, and collaboration in group dynamics and individual activities.

Para mitigar los impactos de la pandemia de COVID-19, las instituciones educativas brasileñas cerraron y finalizaron las actividades presenciales en marzo de 2020, lo que afectó a casi el 100% de la población estudiantil brasileña y aceleró la adopción de clases virtuales en la educación primaria. Esta medida obligó a los estudiantes a pasar de clases presenciales a clases virtuales, lo que resultó en una interrupción abrupta de la interacción social y un sentido de cooperación entre los estudiantes. Debido al escenario expuesto, esta investigación investigó un método viable para mejorar las clases virtuales utilizando Tecnologías de la Información y la Comunicación Digital (TICD). En primer lugar, se realizó un análisis de cómo impacta el uso de las TICD en el desarrollo de habilidades socioemocionales. A continuación, buscamos diseñar y desarrollar nuevas dinámicas y tareas pedagógicas, en formato digital, que potenciaran la interacción social para mejorar la concentración de los estudiantes en la realización de las actividades escolares. El método fue implementado y validado a través de resultados que demostraron que el uso de las TIC en conjunto con actividades pedagógicas desarrolladas de acuerdo a la realidad del acceso de los estudiantes a la tecnología ayuda en el desarrollo de habilidades socioemocionales porque, durante las clases virtuales, se reconocieron impactos positivos sobre el sentido de organización tanto en dinámicas de grupo en las que los estudiantes demostraron empatía y colaboración con compañeros que tenían dificultades para utilizar las TICD como en actividades individuales.

Para mitigar os impactos da pandemia da COVID-19, as instituições de ensino brasileiras foram fechadas e encerraram as atividades presenciais em março de 2020, o que afetou quase 100% da população estudantil brasileira, acelerando a adoção de aulas virtuais no ensino fundamental. Tal medida forçou os alunos a mudarem de aulas presenciais para virtuais, resultando numa interrupção abrupta da interação social e do sentido de cooperação entre os alunos. Devido ao cenário exposto, esta pesquisa investigou um método viável para melhorar aulas virtuais utilizando Tecnologias Digitais de Informação e Comunicação (TDIC). Na sequência, procurou-se conceber e desenvolver novas dinâmicas e tarefas pedagógicas, em formato digital, que potencializassem a interação social para melhorar o foco dos alunos na execução das atividades escolares.  O método foi implantado e validado por meio dos resultados que demonstraram que o uso das TDIC em conjunto com atividades pedagógicas desenvolvidas conforme a realidade de acesso dos alunos à tecnologia auxilia no desenvolvimento de competências socioemocionais porque, durante as aulas virtuais, foram reconhecidos impactos positivos no sentido de organização tanto nas dinâmicas de grupo em que os alunos demonstraram empatia e colaboração com colegas que tinham dificuldades na utilização das TDIC, quanto nas atividades individuais.

RESUMO Objetivo: Analisar a distribuição espacial e a tendência temporal da taxa de mortalidade por hepatites no Brasil no período de 2001 a 2020. Métodos: Estudo ecológico, temporal e espacial sobre a mortalidade por hepatites no Brasil com dados do Sistema de Informações sobre Mortalidade (SIM/Datasus). As informações foram estratificadas por ano do diagnóstico, região do país, municípios (de residência). Foram calculadas as taxas padronizadas de mortalidade (TPM). A tendência temporal foi estimada pela regressão de Prais-Winsten e a distribuição espacial pelo Índice Global de Moran (IGM). Resultados: As maiores médias da TPM no Brasil foram para hepatite viral crônica, com 0,88 mortes para cada 100 mil habitantes (desvio padrão — DP=0,16), seguida de outras hepatites virais, com 0,22/100 mil (DP=0,11). No Brasil, a tendência temporal da mortalidade por hepatite A foi de −8,11% ao ano (intervalo de confiança de 95% — IC95% −9,38; −6,82), enquanto por hepatite B foi de −4,13% (IC95% −6,03; −2,20); de outras hepatites virais, foi de −7,84% (IC95% −14,11; −1,11) e de hepatite não especificada, de −5,67% ao ano (IC95% −6,22; −5,10). A mortalidade por hepatite viral crônica cresceu 5,74% (IC95%3,47; 8,06) no norte e 4,95% no nordeste (IC95% 0,27; 9,85). O Índice de Moran (I) para hepatite A foi de 0,470 (p<0,001), para hepatite B de 0,846 (p<0,001), hepatite viral crônica=0,666 (p<0,001), outras hepatites virais=0,713 (p<0,001) e hepatites não especificadas=0,712 (p<0,001). Conclusão: A tendência temporal das hepatites A, B, de outras hepatites virais e das não especificadas foi de diminuição no Brasil, enquanto a mortalidade por hepatites crônicas foi de crescimento nas Regiões Norte e Nordeste.

Abstract Background Juvenile Dermatomyositis (JDM) is the most common idiopathic inflammatory myopathy in children. Imaging exams are useful for muscle assessment, with ultrasonography (US) being a promising tool in detecting disease activity and tissue damage. There are few studies about muscle elastography. Objectives Our aim was to associate clinical, laboratory, and nailfold capillaroscopy (NC) assessments with US in JDM patients; and to compare the findings of US and Strain Elastography (SE) from patients and healthy controls. Methods An analytic cross-sectional study was performed with JDM patients and healthy controls. Patients underwent clinical exam to access muscle strength and completed questionnaires about global assessment of the disease and functional capacity. Patients were submitted to NC and measurement of muscle enzymes. All subjects underwent US assessment, using gray scale, Power Doppler (PD), and SE. Results Twenty-two JDM patients and fourteen controls, aged between 5 and 21 years, matched for age and sex were assessed. In qualitative and semi-quantitative gray scale, we observed a higher frequency of alterations in patients (p < 0.001), while in PD, there was a higher frequency of positivity in patients’ deltoids and anterior tibialis (p < 0.001). Active disease was associated with an important change in the semi-quantitative gray scale in deltoids (p = 0.007), biceps brachii (p = 0.001) and quadriceps femoris (p = 0.005). The SE demonstrated a high negative predictive value of 87.2. Conclusion US was able, through gray scale, to differentiate JDM patients from controls, while PD achieved such differentiation only for deltoids and anterior tibialis. The semi-quantitative gray scale showed disease activity in proximal muscles. SE was not able to differentiate patients from controls.

ABSTRACT Toxic levels of aluminum (Al) in the soil can reduce the growth of different grain crops. To understand the effects of Al in soybean (Glycine max L.) seedlings Al accumulation and its effect on anatomy, morphology, and metabolism in roots of two soybean genotypes were evaluated: Suprema and A7002. For this, soybean plants were grown in nutrient Clark solution, pH 4.0, without Al (control) and with 100 µM of Al for 72 hours. Both genotypes accumulated Al in the roots, however, Suprema showed a higher Al accumulation than A7002. The latter genotype showed Al accumulated only in the cell walls of the epidermis and root cap, which did not affect root growth. On the other hand, in Suprema, Al accumulated in the cells of the root cap, epidermis, and the nucleus of the ground meristem cells, which resulted in inhibited root growth and structural damage in the root epidermis cells. Al modulated the primary metabolism with increases in the levels of glucose, fructose, sucrose, and malate in the roots of the genotype A7002 and reduced the starch levels in the Suprema genotype. The findings of this study suggest the A7002 genotype seems to be more resistant to Al than Suprema, mainly by the use of two important mechanisms: an increase in malate content and Al immobilization in the external cells of the root.

RESUMEN Las altas concentraciones de amonio (NH4+) pueden ejercer estrés en las plantas cultivadas, lo que causa trastornos nutricionales y reducción del crecimiento. Sin embargo, dependiendo de la intensidad del estrés, este puede atenuarse mediante el silicio (Si). En este trabajo, se investigó la respuesta de la acumulación de cationes y silicio y el crecimiento de plantas de papaya cultivadas en diferentes concentraciones tóxicas de amonio independientemente de la presencia de silicio. El experimento se realizó en la Universidade Estadual Paulista (UNESP), con plántulas de papaya, variedad Grupo Formosa (Calimosa híbrida 01), cultivadas en invernadero, en macetas de 1,7 dm3, rellenas con sustrato a base de fibra de pino y coco. El diseño experimental fue en bloques al azar, en esquema factorial 5x2, con cinco concentraciones de amonio 10, 20, 40, 80 y 100 mmol L-1, en la ausencia y presencia de Si (2 mmol L-1), con cinco repeticiones. A los 31 días posteriores del inicio de los tratamientos, se evaluó la acumulación de calcio, magnesio, nitrógeno, potasio y silicio, altura de la planta, diámetro del tallo y la materia seca de la raíz y los brotes. Los resultados revelaron que el aumento de la concentración de amonio mostró toxicidad en plantas de papaya y una reducción en la acumulación de calcio, magnesio, potasio y silicio, la altura de la planta, diámetro del tallo y la producción de materia seca de raíces y brotes, aunque el silicio esté presente, con mayor afectación en la materia seca de los brotes (87 %) que en las raíces (13 %).

ABSTRACT High ammonia (NH4 +) concentration can exert stress on many plants, which causes nutritional disorders and reduction on plant growth. However, depending on the intensity of the stress, it may be attenuated by silicon. In this work, the response of impact of cations and silicon accumulations and plant growth in cultivated papaya plants was investigated under different toxic ammonia concentrations regardless of the presence of silicon (Si). The experiment was conducted at the Universidade Estadual Paulista (UNESP) with papaya seedlings, variety 'Grupo Formosa' (Calimosa híbrida 01), grown in a glass greenhouse, in 1.7 dm3 pots filled with pine and coconut fiber-based substrate. The experimental design was a randomized block design, in a 5 x 2 factorial arrangement. There were five ammonium concentrations: 10, 20, 40, 80, and 100 mmol L-1 that were delivered via nutrient solution, in the absence and presence of Si (2 mmol L-1), with five replicates. After 31 days of growth, the cations and silicon accumulations in the shoot, plant height, stem diameter, root, and shoot dry matter were evaluated. Results revealed that increased ammonia concentration showed toxicity in papaya plants and stronger reductions in Ca, Mg, K and Si accumulations, plant heights, stem diameters, and root and shoot dry matter production, even when silicon was present and with greater effects on the shoot dry matter (87 %) than that of the roots (13 %).

Resumo Objetivou-se com a presente pesquisa analisar a influência da temperatura na germinação de sementes e a morfologia das plântulas para os S. malaccense e S. jambos. Para germinação, foram utilizadas 250 sementes de cada espécie, de frutos maduros, que foram lavadas em água corrente, secas em condição ambiente por 24 horas e desinfestadas. As sementes foram colocadas em caixas plásticas com substrato vermiculita textura média e submetidas a diferentes temperaturas: 20; 25; 30; 35ºC e 20-30°C em BODs, em delineamento inteiramente casualizado. As variáveis analisadas foram: porcentagem diária de germinação, poliembrionia e índice de velocidade de germinação (IVG). Para caracterização morfológica, foram utilizadas 30 sementes de cada espécie de Syzygium, submetidas à temperatura de 30oC, sendo coletadas amostras com intervalos representativos do processo germinativo. Não há influência da temperatura na germinação das sementes de S. malaccense, e para o S. jambos há prejuízos a 35oC. As temperaturas de 25; 20-30 e 30oC, influenciam na maior porcentagem de poliembrionia para S. malaccense, já para S. jambos, apenas a temperatura de 35 oC afetou esse processo. As temperaturas de 20 e 25oC diminuíram o IVG, para ambas as espécies. As sementes apresentam cotilédones de coloração verde, germinação hipógea com raiz primária de coloração marrom e secundárias esbranquiçadas, curtas e filiformes.

Abstract The objective of this research was to analyze the influence of temperature on seed germination and seedling morphology for the S. malaccense and . S. jambosFor germination, 250 seeds of each species, of ripe fruits, were used, which were washed in running water, dried in room condition for 24 hours and disinfected. The seeds were placed in plastic boxes with medium texture vermiculite substrate and submitted to different temperatures: 20, 25, 30, 35ºC and 20-30°C in BOD`S, in a completely randomized design. The variables analyzed were: daily germination percentage, polyembryony and GSI. For morphological characterization, 30 seeds of both each species, submitted to a temperature of 30oC and samples were collected at intervals representative of the germination. There is no influence of temperature on the germination of S. malacense seeds and for S. jambos there are losses of 35oC. The temperatures of 25 20-30 and 30oC, influence the highest percentage of polyembryony for S. malaccense, for S. jambos, only the temperature of 35oC affected this process. The temperatures of 20 and 25oC decreased the GSI, for both species. The seeds have green cotyledons, hypogeal germination with brown primary root and whitish, short and filiform secondary roots.

RESUMO Hiperidrose é a produção excessiva de suor pelo corpo, podendo ser primária ou secundária e generalizada ou localizada. As regiões craniofacial, axilar, palmar, dorso, face interna das coxas, plantar são comumente afetadas. A hiperidrose primária (HP), embora seja uma doença benigna, apresenta um eminente impacto negativo na qualidade de vida do paciente. Essa doença é classificada quantitativamente de acordo com a Escala de Gravidade da Doença da Hiperidrose, com base em como ela pode afetar as atividades diárias, podendo ser de leve a grave intensidade. Os acadêmicos de medicina enfrentam situações desgastantes físicas e emocionais durante seus afazeres e, quando portadores de doenças crônicas como a HP, podem ser estigmatizados como inseguros na sua profissão. Objetivou-se definir a prevalência, os critérios diagnósticos, a gravidade e o impacto na qualidade de vida que a HP proporciona nos âmbitos profissional e extracurricular dos acadêmicos de medicina. Trata-se de um estudo transversal de abordagem quantitativa de caráter descritivo, que inclui 300 acadêmicos do curso de Medicina da Universidade Tiradentes, em Aracaju/SE, no período de agosto a novembro de 2017. Utilizaram-se frequências absolutas e relativas no caso de variáveis categóricas e medidas de tendência e variabilidade central no caso de variáveis numéricas. O valor de p < 0,05 foi considerado significativo. A prevalência de HP em estudantes de medicina foi de 18% sem diferença entre os sexos e com predomínios das cores branca e parda. A doença ocorreu principalmente em sítios combinados, como palmoplantar, sendo a região palmar a mais acometida. Os sintomas iniciaram-se, principalmente, durante a infância e adolescência, com prejuízo importante nas atividades diárias pessoais e laborativas, e exacerbação do suor com situações de estresse. A gravidade da HP mais encontrada foi a moderada, sendo o impacto negativo na qualidade de vida principalmente relatado nos graus mais avançados da doença, dificultando as atividades acadêmicas. É importante a inclusão do conhecimento da HP no currículo médico para uma maior divulgação da doença, de modo a permitir um diagnóstico precoce e relacionado à intensidade da sudorese na sua abordagem terapêutica.

ABSTRACT Hyperhidrosis is the excessive production of sweat by the body, which can be primary or secondary and generalized or localized. The craniofacial, axillary, palmar, dorsum, inner thigh, and plantar regions are commonly affected. Primary hyperhidrosis (HP), although a benign disease, has an imminent negative impact on the patient’s quality of life. This disease is quantitatively classified according to the Hyperhidrosis Disease Severity Scale, based on how the disease affects daily activities, ranging from mild to severe intensity. Medical undergraduate students face physical and emotional stressful situations during their tasks, and when they have a chronic illness such as HP, they can be stigmatized as unsafe for their profession. The objective was to define HP prevalence, diagnostic criteria, severity and impact on the quality of life in the professional and extracurricular scenario of undergraduate medical students. This is a cross-sectional quantitative study of a descriptive nature, including 300 students from the Tiradentes University medical school, in Aracaju-SE, from August to November 2017. Absolute and relative frequencies were used in the case of categorical variables and measures of central tendency and variability were used for numerical variables; p value was considered significant when p <0.05. The prevalence of HP in medical students was 18%, with no difference between the genders and with the predominance of white and brown ethnicities. The disease occurred mainly in combined sites, such as palmar-plantar, with the palmar region being the most affected one. The symptoms began mainly during childhood and adolescence, with significant impairment in daily personal and work activities, with disease exacerbation under stress situations. The most common HP severity was moderate, with a negative impact on quality of life, mainly reported at the more advanced stages of the disease, hindering academic activities. It is important to include the knowledge of HP in the medical curriculum for a greater dissemination of information on the disease, allowing its early diagnosis and related to the intensity of sweating in its therapeutic approach.

Resumo O presente estudo teve como objetivo descrever a morfologia polínica de três espécies de jambeiro e testar disponibilidade de pólen e receptividade de estigma. Foram analisados os grãos de pólen de Syzygium aqueum, e Syzygium jambosSyzygium malaccense. Realizou-se a leitura do material por microscopia de luz e varredura, a fim de evidenciar a ornamentação detalhada dos grãos de pólen. A viabilidade polínica foi medida de acordo com dois protocolos. A receptividade estigmática foi testada em diferentes estádios de desenvolvimento da flor. Existem diferenças entre a morfologia polínica para as espécies estudadas, medindo os diâmetros polares e equatoriais, em vista equatorial, dos grãos de pólen, observa-se que o S. jambos é a espécie de maior tamanho nos dois valores dos diâmetros; S. malaccense é a espécie de menor tamanho; S. aqueum é a espécie de maior tamanho em relação ao diâmetro polar em vista equatorial. Já em diâmetro equatorial em vista equatorial, S. aqueum apresentou os menores diâmetros, e S. malaccense, os maiores diâmetros, porém as duas espécies sobrepõem-se nos valores dos diâmetros medidos. Existem variações na quantidade de aberturas nos grãos de pólen. O teste de alexander é mais sensível para avaliação de grãos de pólen, e as espécies S. aqueum e S. jambos têm os mesmos horários de disponibilidade de pólen e de receptividade estigmática.

Abstract The present study aimed to describe the pollen morphology in three species of Syzygium, to test pollen availability and stigma receptivity. The pollen was analyzed by light and scanning microscopy to show the detailed ornamentation of the pollen grains. Pollen availability was measured according to two protocols. Stigmatic receptivity was tested at different stages of flower development. There are differences among the pollen morphology for the species studied; when the polar and equatorial diameters are measured in the equatorial view of the pollen grains, it is observed that S. jambos is the largest species concerning the two values of the diameters, S. malaccense is the smallest species and S. aqueum, the largest species in relation to the polar diameter in the equatorial view. For the equatorial diameter in equatorial view, S. aqueum showed the smallest diameters and S. malaccense, the major diameters, but the two species overlap in the values of the measured diameters. There are variations in the number of apertures in the pollen grains. Alexander’s stain is more sensitive to estimate pollen availability and the species S. aqueum and S. jambos have the same schedules of pollen availability and stigma receptivity.

Abstract Aim: To assess the prevalence, quality of life (QoL), and the damages caused by PH, in the professional and personal scope of Physical Education academics with Primary Hyperhidrosis (PH). Methods: A descriptive, exploratory, qualitative and quantitative cross-sectional study was carried out. Twenty-five students from the physical education course at Tiradentes University, Aracaju-SE, were interviewed from August to November 2017. Validated questionnaires were used on PH’s influence in academic activities and QoL. absolute and relative frequencies in the case of categorical variables and measures of trend and central variability in the case of numerical variables. Results: The prevalence of PH in students of Physical Education was 11.11%, mainly in combined sites, such as palmoplantar, and with no difference between the sexes. The symptoms started mostly during childhood and adolescence. Most of the interviewees (92%) reported difficulties with activities such as sports, use of personal protective equipment, handling of work equipment and instruments, and exacerbation in stress situations. They reported significant harm to QoL in situations of greeting people with handshakes, writing, wearing socks and dancing socially. Conclusion: Although PH is a disease that negatively impacts the QoL, it is still little known in the academic world with little demand for medical help. Therefore, it is necessary greater dissemination of the disease for its early diagnosis, related to the intensity of the sweating for a better therapeutic approach.

Resumo Devido à carência de estudos que comparem Syzygium malaccensis(L) Meer e Perry, Syzygium aqueum Burm.f. e Syzygium jambos (L) Alston em relação às características físicas, realizou-se o presente trabalho, visando a caracterizar biometricamente cada uma das três espécies, bem como compará-las. Foram utilizados frutos coletados de plantas de jambeiro da FCAV/UNESP, avaliando-se: massas dos frutos e das sementes (g); largura e comprimento das folhas (cm) e das sementes (cm); porcentagem de polpa dos frutos; comprimento do pecíolo foliar (cm); e área foliar (cm2). Foram utilizados 50 frutos, folhas e sementes de cada espécie, tendo-se 5 repetições, com 10 amostras cada. Os dados obtidos foram submetidos à análise estatística descritiva e foram organizados em tabelas de frequência. Para fins comparativos entre as espécies, adotou-se delineamento em blocos casualizados, sendo analisados pelo teste de Tukey, a 5% de probabilidade. Os jambeiros-vermelho e rosa apresentam frutos com elevado rendimento de polpa. Os frutos do jambeiro-vermelho são leves, de diâmetro estreito, comprimento médio, com sementes largas, folhas estreitas e pequenas, com área foliar pequena. Os frutos de jambeiro-amarelo são de massa, largura e comprimento medianos, com sementes largas, com folhas estreitas, com comprimento médio e área foliar pequena. Os frutos de jambeiro-rosa são leves, largos, compridos, não apresentam sementes, têm folhas largas, compridas e área foliar média. Comparando as três espécies de jambeiro estudadas, conclui-se que os frutos do jambeiro-vermelho são maiores, porém a maior porcentagem de polpa é encontrada nos frutos do jambeiro-rosa, devido à ausência de sementes.

Abstract Due to the lack of studies comparing Syzygium malaccensis(L) Meer e Perry, Syzygium aqueum Burm.f. and Syzygium jambos (L) Alston Syzygium in relation to the botanical genus Sygygium regarding the physical characteristics, the present research was conducted, aiming at biometrically characterizing each of the three species, as well as comparing them. The fruits were collected from the São Paulo State University (Unesp), School of Agricultural and Veterinarian Sciences, Jaboticabal. Syzygium plants were used for the evaluation of: fruit and seed masses (g); width and length of leaves (cm) and of seeds (cm); percentage of fruit pulp; length of leaf petiole (cm); and leaf area (cm2). Fifty fruits, leaves and seeds of each species were used, with 5 replicates of 10 samples each and the data were submitted to descriptive statistical analysis and organized into frequency tables. For comparative purposes among the species, a blocks randomized design was adopted, being analyzed by the Tukey Test at 5% of probability. The malay and water apple present fruits with high yield of pulp. The fruit of the malay apple are light, with narrow diameter, medium length, broad seeds, narrow and small leaves, with small leaf area. The rose apple fruit present medium mass, width and length, with broad seeds, narrow leaves, medium length and small leaf area. The water apple fruit are light, broad, long, without seeds, with broad leaves, long and having medium leaf area. Comparing the three species of Syzygium studied, it can be concluded that the fruit of malay apple are the largest, but the highest percentage of pulp is found in the fruit of the water apple, due to the absence of seeds.

RESUMO: A cisticercose representa um importante problema de saúde pública que pode causar prejuízos econômicos impactantes para a cadeia da carne bovina. Objetivou-se com este estudo determinar a frequência da ocorrência de cisticercose em bovinos e as perdas econômicas aos produtores. Foram coletados dados do serviço de inspeção sanitária oficial de um abatedouro frigorífico de Uberlândia, Estado de Minas Gerais, Brasil, no período de 2009 a 2016. Foram abatidos 358.383 bovinos, provenientes de 46 municípios de Minas Gerais, sendo que destes, 4.243 estavam infectados com cisticercose (1,18%). Foram detectados um total de 5.194 cisticercos, sendo 4.548 (87,56%) vivos e 646 (12,44%) calcificados. A maioria dos cisticercos estava localizada nos músculos mastigatórios masseteres e pterigóides (72,41%). Quanto à classificação da cisticercose, de acordo com o grau de infecção dos órgãos e/ou partes, a infecção discreta foi a que mais ocorreu (92,36%). Verificou-se que os produtores rurais tiveram um total de R$ 1.755.204,20 (US$ 537.526,80) de perdas econômicas durante o período analisado de oito anos devido à ocorrência de cisticercose no rebanho bovino. Destacou-se a importância da inspeção sanitária de carnes, no controle desta importante zoonose.

ABSTRACT: Cysticercosis represents an important public health problem that can cause significant economic losses to the beef industry. The present study aimed to determine the prevalence rate of cysticercosis in cattle and estimate the economic losses to producers associated with this parasitic disease. Data were collected from the official sanitary inspection service of a slaughterhouse located in the city of Uberlândia, Minas Gerais, southeast Brazil, from 2009 to 2016. A total of 358,383 cattle from 46 cities in Minas Gerais, Brazil, were slaughtered, of which 4,243 were infected with cysticercosis (1.18%). A total of 5,194 cysticerci were detected in these carcasses, of which 4,548 (87.56%) were alive and 646 (12.44%) were calcified. Most of the cysticerci were located in the masseter and pterygoid masticatory muscles (72.41%). As to the classification of cysticercosis according to the degree of infection of organs and/or parts affected, mild infection was the most frequently observed (92.36%). Rural producers had a total of R$ 1,755,204.20 (US$ 537,526.80) of economic losses due to bovine cysticercosis during the time span of eight years covered by this retrospective study. The importance of the sanitary inspection of meat in the control of this major zoonotic diseases is emphasized.

Resumo Introdução: A Pneumonia Associada à Ventilação Mecânica (PAV) é uma complicação comumente encontrada na Unidade de Terapia Intensiva (UTI) e está associada à maior mortalidade, tempo de internação e ventilação mecânica (VM). Objetivo: Verificar a incidência da PAV e seu impacto sobre a evolução clínica dos sujeitos submetidos à ventilação mecânica invasiva na UTI. Métodos: Trata-se de um estudo de coorte com sujeitos internados na UTI geral adulto do Hospital Estadual de Bauru/SP. Foram coletadas as informações clínicas referentes ao período de 19 meses. A estratificação para os grupos foi realizada com base na ocorrência ou não da PAV, sem_PAV e PAV, respectivamente. Foi aplicado o teste T2 de Hotelling com 95% de confiança e Qui-Quadrado utilizando o Software “R” e os resultados apresentados em média ± desvio padrão e distribuição absoluta e relativa (p < 0,05). Resultados: A casuística foi de 322 sujeitos; o grupo PAV constou de 73 (22,67%), sendo 54,79% do sexo masculino, idade: 62,31 ± 16,96 anos e APACHE II: 29,98 ± 8,64. O grupo NAV teve maior tempo de VM e na UTI se comparado ao grupo sem_NAV; ainda neste grupo, a maior incidência de óbito na UTI ocorreu entre o 16° ao 20° dia de internação. O grupo sem_PAV era mais velho e 50% deste tiveram alta hospitalar. Conclusão: A PAV e suas interfaces ainda causam impacto sobre a evolução clínica dos sujeitos principalmente quanto ao fator tempo de ventilação mecânica e de internação na UTI. A maior incidência de óbito na UTI ocorre nas primeiras semanas.

Abstract Introduction: Ventilator-Associated Pneumonia (VAP) is a common complication found in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and is associated with increased mortality, length of hospital stay and mechanical ventilation (MV) time. Objective: To determine the incidence of VAP and its impact on the clinical course of the subject undergoing invasive MV in the ICU. Methods: This is a cohort study of hospitalized subjects in the general adult ICU of the State Hospital of Bauru / SP. The clinical information for the period of 19 months were collected. Stratification for the groups was based on the presence or absence of VAP, free_VAP and VAP, respectively. The Hotelling T² with 95% confidence, chi-square and the Mann-Whitney tests were executed using the "R" software and the results showed as mean ± standard deviation and absolute and relative distribution (p < 0.05). Results: The sample was of 322 subjects; the VAP group consisted of 73 (22.67%), 54.79% male, age: 62.31±16.96 years and the APACHE II: 29.98 ± 8.64. The VAP group had longer time of the MV and of the ICU compared to free VAP group; even in this group, the highest incidence of death in the ICU occurred between the 16th and 20th day of hospitalization. The free VAP group was older and 50% of the patients discharged from hospital. Conclusion: VAP and their interfaces still impact on the clinical evolution of the subjects mainly on the time factor of MV and ICU stay. The highest incidence of death in the ICU occurs in the first weeks.

Resumo Foram estudados os diferentes tipos de propagação da lichieira. Depois de examinar as principais características morfológicas e de desenvolvimento da planta e de uma descrição das estruturas de propagação, materiais e tipos de substrato necessários para esta espécie, descrevem-se os diferentes métodos de propagação desta frutifera. A propagação por semente usa-se apenas para melhoramento, pesquisa ou obtenção de porta-enxertos. Embora a propagação por estaquia seja usada em vários países e que a propagação seja por mergulhia é praticada na Índia com grande sucesso, a alporquia é o sistema de propagação comercial mais usado no mundo para esta espécie. Ainda que a atividade do meristema varie em torno do caule, e apenas 30% do mesmo esteja ativo, a enxertia é prática comum na China.

Abstract The different propagation systems for litchis are reviewed. After examining the main morphological and developmental characteristics of the plant and the description of the structures and materials, including types of substrate required for the propagation of this species, the different methods for its propagation are discussed. Propagation by seeds is only used for breeding or research purposes or for raising rootstock for grafting. Although propagation by cuttings is done in many countries and stooling has been reported as highly successful in India, air layering is the most common commercial way of propagation for this species. Despite that the cambium activity varies from place to place around the stem with only 30% of the cambium being active at any one time grafting is of current use in China.

RESUMO A realidade da fruticultura brasileira tem demostrando crescente demanda de informações sustentáveis sobre frutíferas nativas e exóticas, as quais possam diversificar e elevar a eficácia da exploração de frutas. Pesquisas em propagação em frutíferas tem grande importância para que se possa fornecer um protocolo para adequada multiplicação dessa frutífera. Devido a grande diversidade genética das plantas de rambutan, para estabelecimento de pomares comerciais da cultura, recomenda-se o uso de plantas propagadas vegetativamente. Este trabalho teve como objetivo avaliar a propagação de rambuteira por estaquia, alporquia, enxertia, bem como a germinação por sementes e a viabilidade no armazenamento. Pelos resultados dos trabalhos nota-se que a frutífera pode ser propagada por alporquia, enxertia e por sementes, e se existir a necessidade de armazenamento de sementes que não ultrapasse um período de seis dias e sejam mantidas dentro dos frutos, não houve diferenças consideráveis na germinação nos substratos testados neste experimento.

ABSTRACT The reality of Brazilian fruit farming is demonstrating increasing demand for sustainable information about native and exotic fruit, which can diversify and elevate the efficiency of fruit exploitation. Research on propagation of fruits tree is very important so that it can provide a protocol for suitable multiplication of this fruitful. Due to the great genetic diversity of rambutan plants, it is recommended the use of vegetative propagated plants. This research aimed to evaluate the propagation of rambutan by cuttings, layering and grafting, as well as seed germination and viability without storage. The results of this research indicate that this species can be successfully propagated by layering, grafting and seeds. We also observed that the germination percentage of seeds kept inside the fruits for six days were not influenced by the different substrates used in this experiment.
